Tradoodle 2017
Monaghan will be all about family fun between 22nd and 29th of October.
A brand new Traditional Arts Festival for Children and Young Audiences called Tradoodle is taking place in various venues and schools all around the county. If you like the sound of sean-nós dancing for little people or musical adventures with puppetry and storytelling, then head to Drumlin County. Check out the festival website Tradoodle.ie for the full programme. And here’s our top 3 events to whet your appetite!
Theatre and Tradition
The Far Field is a perfect introduction for 3 – 6 year olds into the magical world of the theatre. Some of the county’s finest traditional musicians will provide the soundtrack to a show that will bring your little ones on a journey through the hills of Monaghan. Tickets are just €5. You can have a sneak preview of some of the tunes here.
A Whole Lotta Moxie
MOXIE are taking to the stage in Castleblayney on Wednesday 25th. Suitable for all ages, this will be a traditional musical extravaganza that will blow your socks off. MOXIE are young band at the forefront of new traditional music. Expect a high energy performance, like nothing you will have heard before. They will be performing on Thursday 26th in the Garage Theatre in Monaghan town. Again tickets are just €5 for all shows.
Beat Those Feet
Our third pick is Feet to the Beat. A Sean Nós dancing workshop for children, this will take place in Monaghan Town and Carrickmacross. Any 3-6 year olds can shuffle their feet to their heart’s content under the watchful eye of renowned dancer and musician Sibéal Davit. There will be lots of fun, games, movement, and laughter, followed hopefully by a good night’s sleep after all that exercise. The workshop costs just €3 per child and must be booked in advance.
This is going to be a really lovely week and a great introduction to traditional arts for children. But there are plenty more cultural activities for all ages happening in Co. Monaghan over the month of October. Be sure to check out the Clones Film FestIval happening October 26th-29th for the chance to see some of the best independent movies this year.
