Easter is one of our favourite times of the year. The evenings are getting brighter, the flowers are in full bloom and there is the perfect excuse to eat chocolate. What is not to love! Wonderful workshops
Starting the Easter season early on Saturday 13th April is this fabulous Easter Art workshop for children in the Ballina Arts Centre. Guaranteed fun for creative types under the watchful eye of Elma O’Reilly will be based around an Easter theme. Advance booking is required. See here for all the details.
Meanwhile in Siamsa Tire in Tralee, children can join artist Caoimhe Dunn for some creative workshops. There are a number of themes to choose from including Eggstraordinary Creatures, Easter Rabbit or Set Sail. Children from 4 – 11 are catered for in age-appropriate groups, so you are sure to find something for everyone. Find out more here.
For those who like their baking, the Monaghan County Museum will be hosting an Easter Cupcake Decorating workshop on Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th April. Suitable for children from 5 – 12 years, the experienced craft tutor Samantha Hawe will be teaching the delights of this edible art. And even better, the Easter themed decorations will be used to decorate your own box of cupcakes to bring home. So everyone benefits from this fabulous activity. All details are here.
In the wee county, the whole family is invited to Waterstones Drogheda on Saturday 20th. There will be free Easter themed fun at 12 pm including an Easter egg hunt and Egg decorating. Eggscelent Easter Egg Hunts
Daily from Saturday 13th April there will be super family fun in Rathwood, County Carlow. Little ones can help Little Red Riding Hood and the Easter Bunny to save Easter from the mischievous Freddy Fox. Take a fun-filled train ride through Rathwood forest, hunt for Easter eggs, and then decorate your own. Then finish up with a delicious hot chocolate in the Merrytree Restaurant – these guys have thought of everything. Slots book up quickly so be sure to check here for more details.
One of the most popular Easter events in the capital is the Egg Hunt in Croke Park. During a fascinating tour of the stadium, little ones will need to listen carefully for GAA themed clues. Once all the questions have been answered there will be a tasty Cadbury Easter Egg as a reward. There is also a visit to the GAA museum included in the ticket price. The Easter Bunny will also be making an appearance in the National Heritage Park in Co Wexford. All children are encouraged to channel their inner detective as they follow the trail and collect clues. At the end of the hunt, which takes about two hours, there will be a chocolate treat as a reward. Pre-booking is essential. See here for more information.
Egg-citing Days Out
They are pulling out all the stops in Greenan Maze in Co Wicklow this Easter. Each day there will be treasure hunts and nature trails. For little ones there is an enchanted Fairy tree walk. The animals on the farm might need feeding, or faces might need painting. And over Easter weekend, there will be a fantastic Easter egg hunt at the maze. Those who solve the clues and make it to the centre of the maze will find the special golden eggs and claim a big Easter Egg prize. The magical Brigit’s Garden in Galway is always a must-see at Easter. As well as the beautiful Celtic gardens, on Easter Sunday and Monday the annual Easter Egg Hunt will be taking place. There are two different hunts, a mini-hunt for the little ones around the Celtic Gardens and a mighty-hunt for the older children around the nature trail. Easter in Wells House, Co Wexford is a really special treat. Little ones will get a map to navigate their way around the treasure hunt. Mr Easter Bunny himself will be making an appearance, and there will be live music and a BBQ to keep the grownups entertained.
