Inspirational ideas for Nollaig na mBan 2019
January 6th, the Feast of the Epiphany, celebrates the end of the Christmas festive season. And in Ireland it uniquely is also known as Women’s Christmas, a day dedicated to Irish women everywhere. There are lots of different events taking place all over the country to mark Nollaig na mBan. We have listed a few of our favourites below, but for a more complete listing check www.inspireme.ie.
Celebrating Women in the West
In Westport Country Lodge, the Nollaig na mBan Fun Lunch starts with a mulled wine reception at 1.30 followed by lunch, music and the annual Mayo Inspirational Woman Award Ceremony. Keynote speaker Maria Walsh is sure to provide lots of inspiration for the year ahead and proceeds are in aid of the Mayo Rape Crisis Centre.
Not that far away in Roscommon the beautiful setting of Kilronan Castle will be hosting the fifth Women’s Little Christmas Black Dress Lunch. The Funky Fashion Frolics will be on hand to judge the style and impart valuable fashion advice – with a comedic twist. Dress code is black dress, with a prize for the best splash of yellow. Proceeds are in aid of the Simon Community.
For the Fitness Fans
If you are feeling energetic in Kildare why not gather your ladies and take part in the Sarah Swaine Memorial Run. Starting at 1pm in Kilcullen, this fantastic fundraiser is in aid of Aoibheann’s Pink Tie. And after all the excesses of the Christmas it would be nice to feel good while doing good. What better celebration of life than to run with your family and friends for such an important cause.
For the fashionistas
Meanwhile in Cork an afternoon of fashion, glamour and pampering awaits with a Ladies Lunch and Fashion Show. The fashion show will take place under the watchful eye of top stylist Dee Kelly. Then a delicious lunch to the sounds of top tenor Ryan Murphy, all expertly MC’ed by Helen Queally Murphy aka @DailyDivaDiary. All proceeds are in aid of Breakthrough Cancer Research.
Music for Mna na hEireann
For those lucky women in Dublin, at 6pm there will be a festive dinner taking place in Roganstown Hotel and Country Club in celebration of na mna. The combination of delicious food and live music from Hazel Peters guarantees a fantastic night all round.
While not specifically for the women, the famous An Cistin in Carraroe, County Galway will be bringing down the curtains on the festive season on Sun 6th starting at 6pm with music and singing by John Deegan. Christmas craic for Ceol na Nollaig is guaranteed.
Or for a musical treat of a different kind, why not treat the special woman in your life to a night in the INEC in Killarney. The Three Amigos are back in Killarney following their very successful live country music tour in 2018. This perfect combination of music, song and comedy is sure to make these tickets a very popular present.
Meanwhile in Glor, Ennis the world-famous Kilfenora Ceili Band will be taking to the stage at 8pm. This is a must see celebration of traditional music and dance. Toes will be tapping late into the night.
Warrior Women
Discover women who fought battles and took no prisoners, women who struggled under curses and captivity, women who rebelled, women who rule. Whelan’s of Wexford street is the venue for a retelling of the myths and legends of Women and Warriors.
