Larry Reynolds Weekend

Larry Reynolds Weekend

The East Galway town of Ballinasloe will come alive with the sounds of Irish music for the weekend of 8th-10th September. In the early 1950’s  Larry Reynold’s left his native Ahascragh and emigrated to Boston. He subsequently became a celebrated musician and an influential member of the Irish-American community in New England. Now in it’s 4th year, his legacy will be  remembered during Féile Cheoil Larry Reynolds.

Larry Reynolds Weekend – Friday

The weekend starts gently. Enjoy a cup of tea and a trad session on Friday morning at the local country market. Perhaps you could then stroll over to the stunning new library building for the Photo Exhibition. This will showcase a selection of photographs depicting Ballinasloe people and places in years gone by.

The Kane Sisters
The Kane Sisters

The opening concert will surely be a highlight of the weekend.  The supremely talented Kane Sisters from Letterfrack will take to the stage in the Town Hall. The siblings focus on the composing talent of Paddy Fahy, a fellow Galway musician from neighbouring Kilconnell. They have been impressing audiences for a number of years with their distinctive style of fiddle playing. And this will be a wonderful opportunity to see them perform.  Furthermore, tickets are just €15 and can be booked in advance.

Larry Reynolds Weekend – Saturday

Saturday will see the streets of Ballinasloe being taken over by craft exhibitions. There will also be music workshops for those who wish to work on their musical skills.

Additionally, a fantastic lecture series on the music of East Galway, and it’s unique style and composition is planned for Saturday afternoon. Or take an hour out and pop in to the Pillar Bar for the tutors session and what promises to be the best of music, song and dance from all the tutors. Then, on Saturday evening an Irish Music Pub Trail taking in various pubs around the town should give you your fill of ceoil agus craic.

Larry Reynolds Weekend – Sunday

Sunday is the day to be inspired by young musicians. Larry Reynolds was a fiddle player of renown who was also passionate about young people continuing to develop and learn Irish Music skills. The U-18’s Fiddle Competition will showcase the talent of some up and coming stars of the future. And we love the Larry Reynolds Weekend Junior Session. This Seisiún is dedicated to young, beginner and intermediate musicians who will receive a warm and open welcome.
Finally, get the dancing shoes on for the Céilé Mór, before  Colcannon perform for the final concert of the Larry Reynolds Festival in the Pillar Bar. Authentic and joyous music and dance to finish off a wonderful weekend and a unique festival.
