The Glen of Aherlow in Tipperary is a lush valley where the River Aherlow runs between the Galtee Mountains. It is a haven for walkers of all abilities. Therefore. it is the perfect place to pull on the walking boots and banish the winter blues.

The Winter Walking Festival

The Winter Walking Festival is run by the Galtee Walking Club. The festival will take place over the weekend of January 28th and 28th 2017.  There will be three grades of walks on each day. So there is something suitable for both experienced walkers and those with moderate levels of fitness.

Types of Walks

  • Grade A walks are for very experienced walkers and will involve steep climbs and a fast pace for a considerable length of time.
  • Grade B walks are also for experienced walkers but will be of shorter duration, perhaps 5 hours, and at a more moderate pace but will also involve some climbing.
  • Grade C walks will be mostly on forest tracks with some minor climbs and will last for approximately 3 hours and cover a distance of 10 to 12 km.  They can be done by anyone with a moderate level of fitness.
