Family Fun at Leopardstown
There are not many cities in the world where you have such easy access to a racecourse as Dublin with Leopardstown Racecourse. Situated just off the M50 or a short Luas journey from the city centre, it makes the decision to go horse racing an easy one. This year, on Sunday May 13th, there is a real family treat in store. Family Raceday featuring the Derrinstown Stud Derby will be one of the highlights of the racing calendar. And the good news is that ALL KIDS GO FREE!
Amazing activities
With the first race starting just after 1pm there will be plenty for all ages to do and see. As well as some top quality flat racing, there will be lots of children’s entertainment. Little ones will find it hard to decide what to do first. Maybe the puppet or magic show? Or perhaps story telling by Imaginosity? And in a galaxy far, far away, there will be lots of Star Wars characters wandering through the crowds.
Fun and frolics
The Family Marquee – situated beside the horse’s parade ring will have face painting and balloon making as well as a front runner exhibition from the RACE academy where your little ones will get some information about Ireland’s horse racing industry. To make sure that everyone goes home exhausted but happy, there are plenty of inflatables to be bounced on or climbed over.
Style and substance
Throughout the day the Clayton Hotel is sponsoring the Leopardstown Best Dressed Family competition. So get your thinking caps on now, decide on a theme that reflects your family’s style and start getting your outfits together. Have fun as you all get creative with the costumes and hats. You are guaranteed to have lots of photos that will make it into the family album. On the day, as you wander between the parade ring and the stands, pop an entry form into the Leopardstown marquee. There are incredible prizes on offer – First prize is an €800 hotel voucher for the Clayton Hotel Leopardstown. This competition is not about putting on your Sunday best. It is about having fun, letting your creativity flow and showcasing your own individual family style.
Everyone under 18 can avail of free entry to Leopardstown Racecourse. So why not gather the troops and make it a family gathering to remember. Leopardstown Racecourse is wheelchair accessible. And with a range of bars and restaurants on site, no-one will go hungry. From the stands you will have a great view over this unique venue with exciting racing from some of the country’s top jockeys and trainers. They say in Ireland that horse racing is in our genes.
