Darkness Into Light for Pieta House 2019

We live in a busy world where our lives are ruled by the blue light of our always-on screens. How many of us have recently been outside early enough to welcome in the day? And I don’t mean on the way home from a night before that failed to end! The breaking dawn, with its emerging light and clear crisp air, serenaded by the dawn chorus of birds, is a mystical experience. And with your runners on, with friends for company, it’s a memory in the making. Witness the darkness into light.

Darkness Into Light

On 11 May all over the country, and worldwide, people will be walking, jogging and running 5k for the annual Darkness Into Light. This is a fundraiser for Pieta House. Pieta House provides much needed therapy and counselling support services for those feeling suicidal or affected by suicide. Can there be anything more symbolic on a summer’s morning than to stand with your fellow countrymen and women and walk towards the rising sun? With the associated symbolism of hope and new beginnings, you will be raising much needed funds for this valuable service.

Be part of something amazing…

Everyone is welcome, of all ages and abilities. Runners can start first, with walkers following. It is not a race!  Children aged 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Each walk taking place in Ireland starts at 4.15 am. You must arrive at least 45 minutes before it starts. It usually takes about 25 minutes for a runner to complete the circuit. Most walkers will do it in about an hour. Dogs on a lead may be welcome. Check your venue’s Facebook page to confirm. And please clean up after them. Remember that there will be children and other dogs around so they must be friendly! Once you have finished, treat yourself to a well-deserved breakfast. And perhaps bask in the satisfied glow of knowing your day has started in the best possible way!
