Culture night – Wexford, Kilkenny and Laois
For one night only, on Friday 22nd September, cultural organisations all over the country are throwing open their doors. Everywhere you turn there is a fabulous programme of events planned for all ages and interests. Here are a selection of just some of the events taking place all around the counties of Wexford, Kilkenny and Laois on this most special of days. Culture Night in Wexford
First up is Gorey School of Art where a packed program of free workshops will challenge creative types. Topics include art and mindfulness, critical writing and an introduction to print.
Or for mini-maestros (ages 4-8), Wexford Art Centre has an Instrument Making Workshop at 5pm.
In Selskar Square, Wexford town will come alive to Jig Time, with a mixture of traditional and folk music and dancing till you drop, followed by theatre on the green as Riff Raff Theatre present ‘Like a Leaf from a Tree’.
The National Opera House has a full agenda on the night including Opera from the Wexford Light Opera Society which is always an audience favourite, an inspirational performance by guitarist Ronan Morris and comedy from the Wexford Improv Group.
Culture Night in Kilkenny
Next door in Kilkenny lots of delights await. The Blackstack Studio features a printmaking workshop. Here you can get hands-on experience of the wonderful world of printing, with something in store for everyone. Screen-printing your own design might lead to a whole new career … so get designing now.
The Arts Office will be showcasing Rhyme Rag Poetry, the work of an inspiring group of young writers.
At the wonderful Rothe House in the heart of the marble city there is a full evening of entertainment planned. From literature to traditional music, to the fantastic ‘Night at the Museum’ you could fill many happy hours here. A highlight is the curator’s choice where for one night only some of the special items from storage will be on view.
Culture Night in Laois
The organisers in Laois have been working hard this year to create such a varied program. There are two free tours of the magnificent Emo Court, one of Ireland’s finest stately homes. Be sure to check out the newly extended gardens while you are there.
The Left Bank House in Mountrath plays host to an Artists Open Studio Event from the design studio Figure2Ground, where the design studios and showrooms will be open for viewing. You can savour a coffee from the pop-up expresso bar, and enjoy a cake-shaped treat on this special jazz-themed evening.
The Arthouse Gallery in Stradbally will be exhibiting ‘Time and Space’, including highlights from the Texaco Children’s Art Competition.
While in Durrow Library children aged 9+ can meet author Helena Duggan who will be reading from her novel ‘A Place Called Perfect’, followed by some book-based crafting.
With so many wonderful events happening all across Laois, Kilkenny and Wexford there is excuse for missing the delight that is Culture Night. Celebrate all things cultural right on your doorstep.
