Since it began as a small event in Dublin in 2006, Culture Night has grown into one of the most inspirational events of the year. For one night only, on Friday 21st September, cultural organisations all over the country are throwing open their doors. We have picked some of our favourite events from the East of the country. 
 

Kilkenny

Festival Of Creative Making

The National Design and Craft Gallery in Kilkenny is celebrating culture night with a Festival of Creative Making. Adults can enjoy the entertainment while children and young adults get to take part in workshops and activities on a range of different crafts.
The KCAT Arts Centre in Callan invites you to a workshop to Paint a Picture in Oils. This unique workshop will have you creating a masterpiece in no time. Advance booking is essential.

Carlow

Carlow County Museum

In Carlow the Forward Steps Resource Centre will be hosting a Multicultural Food Fest & Picnic. The local community is coming together to promote integration and our multicultural society. There will be food and music from many different nationalities and cultures. Or from 4pm the Carlow County Museum will have a family-friendly bilingual tour with a quiz to complete as you wander around the exhibitions.  IT Carlow will have a tour of their internationally acclaimed Art Collection. From Picasso to Warhol, with some Bacon in between, this is one not to be missed.
 
 

Wexford

Yarnbombing @ Selskar Square

 
In Wexford they have surpassed themselves this year with their Culture night plans. In Selskar Square the Access Community Education Programme will be Yarnbombing the square with the colourful creations of the Knitting and Crochet Group. Meanwhile in the Bullring the Red Moon Creative Arts Theatre presents “Grainne’s Garden’. This interactive family show is one for kids of all ages,with two performances at 5.15 and 6.15 pm. While in the Wexford Opera House there is a jam-packed programme all night long to celebrate culture night. From ballet to opera, music to choral delights, this venue has it all.
Ireland’s oldest lighthouse in Hook Head Co Wexford will also be embracing Culture night 2018. This unique venue will be open extra late. In addition, there will be free guided tours for those lucky enough to book their places.
 
 

Wicklow

Meanwhile in Wicklow, The Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray will be showing a special screening of The Breadwinner – an Oscar nominated film from Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon. This is sure to be a popular event so advance booking is essential. And in Greystones Library, everyone’s favourite fitness guru Karl Henry will be treating audiences to nuggets of wisdom from his book The Healthy Living Handbook.
