Connemara Green Festival
At the foot of the majestic Connemara National Park on the Wild Atlantic Way, a weekend of celebration will take place from 6th to 8th October. The Connemara Green Festival in the beautiful Letterfrack will delight all ages.
This year’s theme is ‘Ireland’s Vanishing Nature – Challenges & Solutions’
The festival program includes walks and talks with local ecologists and environmentalists, nature workshops and sea kayaking. Foodies will love the cookery demonstrations, mushroom and seaweed foraging and the chance to sample delicious local artisan foods. Many of the events are free of charge. And all sound amazing! Here are some of our highlights…
The Festival will open on the new Atlantic View – Woodland Walk. This trail connects the village to the majestic Atlantic Ocean. It is a particularly significant site for the opening event, as the trail was funded by monies raised at last year’s festival. You can toast both the festival and the new trail with a celebratory drink.
Saturday will be action packed all the way. When you are surrounded by all that breathtaking scenery, a film workshop where you will learn to capture the nature’s autumn glory should be handy. Or how about a hike that ends with a pint? For children, a scavenger hunt in Connemara National Park should keep little adventurers amused for a few hours. Or head to the shore for some seaweed foraging. This weekend is all about celebrating the natural splendour of Connemara – on the edge of Europe.
Foodie Heaven…
Perhaps you’ll be inspired to try some vegetarian cooking classes. Perhaps you could add mushroom foraging to your skill set. Or don the wellies and wet gear and head out on the oyster farm walk. Dinner parties could get a whole lot more interesting!
This fabulous festival aims to raise awareness of the unique ecology of Connemara. And to raise funds for biodiversity projects and local artisan foods. A weekend where you can delight in beautiful scenery, eat delicious food and spend time in nature…what’s not to love? Go green this October!
