6 Cycling Events for Spring

Anybody who loves cycling isn’t going to need a reason to get up on bike and take to the road.  However, if your weekend sportive happens to raise funds for a fantastic charity all the better! Here’s six lovely cycling events happening over the next few weeks.

 

Lap of Lough Ree, Athlone – Sunday 22nd April

How would you like to circumnavigate the beautiful Lough Ree, Starting and finishing at The Bounty, Buccaneers Rugby Club, this 85k cycle will raise funds for the lifesaving service in Athlone, Lough Ree RNLI. Find out more here.
 

Salesian Cycle Challenge, Limerick  – Sunday 22nd April

The Salesian School are running this cycling event for the first time as a fundraiser for the school’s ASD programme.. There will be both 40 and 80 km routes. Each routes will be with a lead car and broom van, making this an idea cycle for all levels.  Find out more here.

Mayo Pink Ribbon Charity Cycle, Castlebar – Saturday 5th May

This cycle is becoming one of the most popular fundraising events in the west of Ireland in no small part due to the warm welcome cyclists receive from the local communities along the routes. All the money raised at this event goes directly to breast cancer research. There is no fee to register for this event. But all cyclists are asked to raise or donate a minimum of €100 in order to participate (€60 for u18s). The cycle comprises of three distances: 51 km, 108 km and 147 km. These routes will take the cyclists through the magnificent Mayo countryside. Find out more here.
 
 

Kells Angels Carlow Kilkenny Stroke Service Charity Sportive, Stoneyford – Saturday 5th May

 
The Kells Angels Cycling Club have organised this fantastic Sportive. Participants have the option of a 55 k and a 100 k route, both of which start from Stoneyford village. All proceeds from the cycle will be donated to the stroke fund at St. Luke’s. Find out more here.
 
 

Slane Spinners – SOSAD Cycle, Meath – Sunday 13th May

 
This is the 10th anniversary of the SOSAD Cycle in Slane. Over the years, this cycling sportive has become well known on the east coast and midlands for being well organised and for its fabulous scenic 50k and 100K routes on the rolling hills of Co Meath and also the stunning Co Louth Coastline. What started out as a bucket list cycle has now become an annual event for many cyclists. Find out more here.
 
 

Cycle For Ethan & MPS 2018, Shannon – Sunday 13th May 

Every year,  Club Rothaíochta na Sionainne- runs the “Cycle for Ethan” charity sportive.  Ethan was diagnosed with Mucopolysaccharidosis Type VI, a rare genetic disease called known as MPS when he was 2 years old. The disease is progressive, degenerative and ultimately terminal. The cycle aims to help raise awareness of the MPS, raise funds, and bring the community together for a fun charity cycle. There are 30 km and 75 km routes and this is always a fantastic event for a brave young boy. Find our more here.
