5 Things to Do This Week
17 – 23 August – Our top 5 things to do this week
It’s Heritage Week! There is a huge variety of events happening around the country and online. Here’s our weekly pick of what’s on…
HERITAGE WEEK: Various events nationwide and online
National Heritage Week is one of Ireland’s largest cultural events. This year there are a host of events happening all over the country and online. We’ll be enjoying the new Limerick Medieval Trial (download the map here). And streaming a talk about paper conservation from the National Gallery. What have you planned? You’ll be spoilt for choice.

ART: Crowded Thresholds, Luan Gallery
Athlone’s Luan Gallery are currently hosting Crowded Thresholds, a beautiful group exhibition on tour from the National Design & Craft Gallery with the support of the Design & Crafts Council Ireland. Crowded Thresholds explores effects of the subconscious in the creation and response to objects of material culture. This is a lovely way to spend an afternoon on the banks of the Shannon.

FILM: The Assistant, Triskel Arts
The Triskel Arts Centre in Cork is back open since last week and already have two very successful live music performances under their belt. This weekend you can see the chilling drama ‘ The Assistant’. Staring Julia Garner, this is a dark tale of workplace harassment. With excellent safety procedures in place, we couldn’t be happier to return to one of our favourite venues.

MUSIC: Jack L and Mick Flannery
Live music – We will never take you for granted again…. The Ballykeeffee Amphitheatre in Kilkenny have a series of socially distanced outdoor gigs happening this weekend. County Cork singer-songwriter Mick Flannery will take to the stage on Friday night. Jack L has kept us entertained with his online gigs all through lockdown. And to see him perform live on Saturday will be a real treat. Tickets must be booked in advanced.
