Lough Key Castle Loop
On Saturday 16th June, you can take a dip in Lough Key with Open Water Swimmer. Lough Key is known as the Jewel of the West. It’s not often that you get to swim around a castle. There will be a choice of 750m and 1.5km courses. Or if you’re feeling especially fit, you can always do both. Find out more here.
Beat The Ferryman Open Water Swim
County Waterford is the place to be on Saturday 23rd June. Passage Hurling Club presents ‘Beat The Ferryman Open Water Swim 2018’. 2018 Galway Bay Swim
One for long distance swimmers next… The thirteenth Frances Thornton Memorial Galway Bay Swim takes place on Saturday 21st July. The swim is named after the late Frances Thornton, and to date has raised over €600,000 for Cancer Care West. It is now one of Ireland’s biggest, longest (and friendliest) one day swims. The swim starts from Aughinish in Co. Clare and finishes at Blackrock Diving Tower in Salthill. Given the wind, tide and currents, the swim is a distance of approx. 13 kilometres and can take anything from 2.5 hours to 6 hours to complete. Find out more here.
Bisra GaddinAbtGarnish 2018
Last but not least, the Bisra GaddinAbtGarnish takes place on Saturday 28th July. This Fundraising Swim around Garnish Island In Glengarriff, West Cork takes place every year. Funds raised support Bantry Lifeboat. All swimmers, from novices to experts, are welcome. The event ends with a warm meal at the Loughavoul Inn. Find out more here.
